Our History....
On September 27, 1926, a group of citizens of the southwestern portion of Emaus met in what was known as "Henninger’s School House", then in Upper Milford Township and formed Citizen's Fire Company #2. Fire Chief Frank Stortz and Burgess Wilson Kratzer encouraged and assisted in organizing the Company. Formal organization was completed on October 26, 1926. Twenty men signed the incorporation charter on March 17, 1927. The Charter was received on May 9, 1927.
The original building was bought on August 19, 1927 from the Emaus School District at a cost of $1,500. The Emaus School District acquired the two-room building from Upper Milford Township by annexation. Members of the Company voluntarily remodeled the school house. The west side room or section housed the new Hahn engine and the east side room was used for meeting purposes and social activities. The basement was excavated in 1928 and made into a club room. Later an addition provided kitchen facilities and in 1948, additional space was provided to house two pieces of fire equipment and the social quarters were decorated and modernized. In 1950, the structure was improved with Perma Stone and this year's improvement consisted of curb and pavement, grading and seeding of the lawn, providing hard surfaced parking area.
The Triple Combination Hahn Truck was purchased on April 19, 1929 at a cost of $6,500. The members of the Company canvassed the town and raised the necessary funds to pay for the Hahn truck. This engine served the community and outlying districts satisfactorily. Recognizing the advancement and progress of Citizens’ Fire Company No. 2 and the need of additional modern equipment, Borough Council ordered a new Triple Combination Mack engine.
From a membership of twenty in 1926, the Company has increased to a paid membership of 1,700 in 2009.
